i read my palm to see if you're still there.

i wrapped myself in orange silk & bent down to kiss your arms & say it's a foolish fate that follows us here & i hide away from you all the summer & you make that pretty face they scour the midnight sky for. & the sky, it was blue&black&blue because you had beaten it with your roman arm & we were servants on the sand who drew shadows for kings to cry. then i was queen; you were the moon. & we argued until daylight when you slept & dreamed so faintly. i carried your light across the heavens & we wept the day they said it could not be. i made it so, i made it so. i wrapped myself in purple silk & i aimed for your silver face & we were those moonstruck arms shivering in the cold.

we ran into the trees turned grey & we hid our limbs & hair in sheaths of rain. honey, it was so damn hard to say it was done. & forever waited just another hour. we captured the thieves & stole all the jewels. that infamous ear forgot all it heard & i fell so far when the slumbering sun had found us at last. & we died like juliet with the potion in our hands but we woke & woke again. & neither of us spoke with our mouths, but your eyes, your eyes they made messages in moments. your cheekbone quivered in the sunlight & i slipped so silently because you betrayed me so easy. & still that bone is shaking. shivering still.

you never did understand what i was trying to say.
